Political deplatforming is the act of denying another person or group to speak or express their viewpoints in a setting where multiple views should be heard. It has been a common act throughout history, but today it takes its own unique form in America’s polarized political atmosphere.
Deplatforming is unacceptable because it advocates disruption and even violence to prevent opposing viewpoints from reaching listeners. It has become a regular tactic of political extremists in America and beyond.
RICRU supports free speech and peaceful assembly, which are protected by the 1st Amendment. Individuals and groups that use deplatforming should be denounced. Groups who are for free speech should separate themselves from members that use violence to silence opposition.
