The Rhode Island Civil Rights Union‘s main goal is to promote the preservation and improvement of civil liberties in Rhode Island, America, and worldwide. We are a non-partisan group that supports free speech, the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and providing information, assistance, and a platform for normal people to speak, to protect them from infringement of their rights.
We promote free speech from all peaceful individuals and dialogue from everyone from every background, regardless of their political affiliation, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, economic class.
RICRU stands for:
- Free speech: We support the right to speak your conscience peacefully without fear of violent or personal attacks. While we are against bigotry and hate speech, we are vehemently against hate speech laws, as they entail a slippery slope into governmental control of what is allowed to be said. We are against deplatforming, legal or illegal, as it is an immoral method of shutting down free speech and dialogue considered unsuitable by certain groups.
- Constitution & Bill of Rights: We support the Constitution and Bill of Rights and limited government. While some government intervention may be beneficial to protect citizens, we believe government causes more problems than it solves. We believe in the average citizens’ right to bear arms, as enshrined in the 2nd Amendment, and confirmed for individuals by a Supreme Court ruling. We believe in the 4th Amendment, guarding citizens’ against unlawful search and seizure, a law commonly skirted or ignored by authorities.
- Law Reform: We support the rule of law, and love and understanding for all mankind. We act to reform laws that are contrary to morality or inherently anti-freedom, at a local and national level.
